Published in Weymouth in 1829 this is an interesting example of the first Edition of this book on the Dorset town of Weymouth along with Melcombe, online records indicate there were only 170 copies printed, this copy is bound in a worn old half leather binding, normally illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author and one plate of tokens printed on yellow paper, the original owner of this copy has had it extra illustrated with a loosely inserted hand coloured map of Dorset dated 1817, and five old engravings dating from 1799-1809 which have been professionally bound in, probably at the time the leather binding was done also includes seven pages of neatly handwritten Manuscript notes relating to Weymouth & Melcombe, along with some further handwritten annotations in the text by the same hand, also loosely inserted is a contemporary article from The Review Magazine about Weymouth quoting from Ellis?s book unfortunately there is no name or bookplate present to indicate whose copy this originally was, possibly one from the list of subscribers at the end of the book the book is just under 9 inches tall, 269 pages. the leather binding is in a worn state with the front board detached, some loss to leather on base of spine, rear joint cracked, internally some occasional mild foxing else contents in good general condition AN INTERESTING EXTRA ILLUSTRATED EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST EDITION WITH MANUSCRIPT NOTES.
