Illustrated. 227 pages. The 1898 first edition. An important piece of American golf literature, THE FIRST BOOK OF AMERICAN GOLF FICTION. Five quaint golfing tales by Sutphen (1861-1945), an American author, playwright, and editor, also a golfer of note with six books to his credit and frequent golf contributions to publications of the day. Half red cloth with gilt lettering to spine, cover lettering in white on green paper covered boards, rear cover with four leaf clover in white, upper page edges red. No spine fading; red cloth and gilt are bright, the red cloth tipped corners are still square without bumps or bends. Front cover clean, slight staining to rear cover. Former owner name on front endpaper and dated August 29th 1898. Light pastedown offset to endpapers and title page else clean and bright throughout, binding tight. A very nice collector condition copy of this American classic. Covers protected in mylar. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Seller Inventory # 202247
