A scarce first edition of this boys' school adventure based on the author's own schooldays at Cheltenham College. Charles Turley, pseud.: Charles Turley Smith (1868-1940) was the son of the squire of Sedgeberrow, Gloucestershire and was educated at Cheltenham College and Exeter College, Oxford. He was a close friend of J. M. Barrie and was immortalised as one of the Lost Boys in Peter Pan who "fell to the tomahawk of the terrible Panther". Good condition only. Covers rubbed, frayed at corners and spine. Some foxing. Front hinge cracked. Contemorary pencil inscription (1902) on front free endpaper by Gerald Cruickshank mentioning the Cheltenham connection.
