A scarce work. The title page is hand-written by the author. It is thought that the main book block was published in the early1840s by Oxford University Press. Bloxam was an amateur archaeologist who wrote works on Gothic architecture. This work gains mention in Harry Carter's "Orlando Jewitt, Wood Engraver (1962), p.18, and later in Frank Broomhead's "The Book Illustrations of Orlando Jewitt" (1995) p.33: "A few copies.were bound in typical publisher's cloth of the period with a MS. title page in the author's hand". Owner's plate to inside cover. Unmarked, clean and bright, tight binding, marbled page edges. Bound in half-leather with marbled boards, spine with five raised bands and somewhat faded title.
