First Edition ( 'Published by The Viking Press in September1954'). As you can see from the photos, the blue covers are very clean and the silver lettering on the front and spine is very bright. The corners and edges are in very good shape. In fact, there's little to no wear at all on the covers. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. I have scrolled through them a number of times without finding any soiling. The white inside covers and end papers are also very clean. I found only one imperfection. There is the same thin horizontal crinkling a ways up from the bottom edge of sixteen consecutive pages, two of them also have a small crease coming up a little ways from the bottom edge. I would guess that this was created by something pressing against the pages. I didn't see any corner creases, no placeholder creases. There aren't any markings in the book. There aren't any attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. You can see the dust jacket in the photos. I've had it in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book. There is a 1/2 inch tear off the top edge of the front cover. A tiny bit of the paper there has a scuff, and there is a crease as well. There is one other smaller thin tear off the front top edge. There's also a small scuff above the front bottom corner. There is light wear at the spine ends and a very small thin tear off the rear bottom edge beside a darkened spot. The flaps are in solid shape. They are perfectly clean. There is a light bit of crinkling or creasing off their top edges, one teeny tiny tear as well off the front one's top edge. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. From the front dust jacket flap 'In 1926, came Lolly Willowes, and international literary prominence. Since then the Townsend Warner pen has made varied and fanciful excursions, resulting in a series of novels and stories that incite a kind of apostolic zeal in the large ranks of her fans.'.
