1964. . First edition. [v], 273pp. and a map on the endpapers. Major John Onslow (1906-1985) was born in Leighton, Shropshire, and served in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. He spent four years with the Iraq Levies, and this experience gave hime the material for this book. After the War he became a cattle-rancher in Western Canada, and later retired to Sussex. This novel is set in Iraq, and ther action moves from a mountain-fortress in Kurdistan to the desert in the south. The opening shots are fired by the jet-fighters and guns of the Army. The story closes with the sound of drums and pipes at a Bedouin festival. The book is bound in the original red boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good + condition. The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing on the front and rear free endpapers. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper is very good with some shelf wear and light soiling. The top corners and top of the spine are rubbed and the spine is slightly faded. Seller Inventory # LitOnslow01
