First state with maroon cloth and blue & blindstamped crosses on the front board, silver & tan lettering on spine, blue-gray endpapers, "First Printing" on the copyright page and apparent faint topstain in gray. First issue dustjacket with "8/54" on front flap. The book is a bright, clean copy with just-beginning foxing on the fore and top edges; the dustjacket is price-clipped with beginning toning to the flap upper edges and spine, minimal edgewear, mostly at the spine head and a small stain on the rear flap.
