One of the great novels to emerge front he author s experience of World War II, specifically rhe attack on pearl Harbor, where Jones was stationed. Filmed to Academy Award-winning acclaim by director Fred Zinnemann in 1953, with a raft of stellar performance, including by Frank Sinatrat, Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, and Donna Reed. One of the rare instances where a movie adaption lives up to the book- no small feat considering the numerous censorship problems presented by Jones s book at a time when the Production Code still held sway over the US film industry.
