About this Item
"English Literature at the Close of the Middle Ages" by E. K. Chambers is a volume within the larger series, "Oxford History of English Literature. Published by Oxford University Press, this is the 1947 Second Printing. It would be hard to find an individual with a deeper understanding of the subject. The book remains one of the most important works on the subject of late medieval literature. The editors, in a brief note at the beginning of the book had this to say: " Sir Edmund Chamber's book . is the story of the medieval drama and the story of the ballad. The editors wished to give the author the opportunity of writing once more on subjects which have interested him in the past - the medieval drama, the carol and fifteenth century lyric, and Malory." The book contains an extremely generous Bibliography. ************************************** CONTENTS :: I. Medieval Drama (starting with Church services) / II.
