About this Item
12mo. Blind-stamped red cloth, spine gilt, all edges gilt. Spine slightly darkened and rubbed., lower hinge a little cracked. Inscribed on the front free endpaper, "E Payne In affectionate rememberance of her Mamma S P"; pretty bookseller's ticket, "Sold by / S. BLOORE, / at S. Fox's, / Nottingham". Attractive chromolithographic frontispiece, by W. Wahler: for some reason this is an unusually scarce book. "The Language of Flowers is a tongue that finds access to every ear, and strikes a chord of sympathy in every heart. The same lovely blossoms are linked with childhood's recollections of sunshine and mirth, and mingle with the sacred memories of the dead, and the hallowed spot where they are laid. They speak to the dullest, in language that cannot be mistaken, of beauty and innocence, of Divine Benevolence and Love" ("To the Reader"). Seller Inventory # 33M100225
