One of the most popular books of devotion of the 17th & 18th centuries with twelve editions appearing during the 18th. Lucas was also the author of Practical Christianity. Lucas name is only on the author's preface in vols 1 & 3. 3 parts in 2 vols. Full leather. The title page of vol 1 bears a note that this copy was "Given to the Library at Presteigne by the Reverend Author". Armorial bookplates of Richard Strachey of Ashwick Grove. Ownership inscriptions 1937. Vol I has both boards almost detached and front hinge repaired with paper tape. 50% of leather title labels on both vols absent. A thin 8cm strip of leather rubbed from rear board vol II. Corners, edges, and head and foot of spine worn both vols. A little foxing here and there. Ow vol 1 good, vol 2 very good indeed.
