Taken together, this is a clean and seriously impressive publication from the "Coal Mining Series" bound in leather-like pebbled black which has the colour and even the appearance of coal, surely not accidentally. A serious technical guide to all aspects of a colliery deputy's work, aided by b/w diagrams and illustration throughout, with content based on the syllabuses for the general certificate in mining of the City and Guilds (London) Institute.
