About this Item
Scattered light foxing. Numerous dog-eared pages. Penciled notes on the front endpapers and underlining in pencil on several pages. Binding is square and tight. 390 pages with Bibliography and Index. Illustrations and folded map affixed inside rear cover. Originally printed in seven volumes from 1936 to 1958, Volume II covers the years 1693 to 1731, most of which fell into the "silent years" of Texas history until numerous manuscript sources were discovered by the University of Texas and the Texas Knights of Columbus Historical Commission during 20 years of research prior to the publication of the seven-volume set, which was prepared under the auspices of the Knights of Columbus of Texas. This volume, Volume II, includes the following chapters: I. French Settlement of Louisiana and Spain's Renewed Interest in Texas, 1693-1714; II. The Permanent Occupation of Texas, 1715-1719; III. The Founding of San Antonio de Valero and the Expansion of Missionary Activity, 1716-1719; IV. The Aguayo Expedition and the Founding of San Jose Mission, 1719-1722; V. Reestablishment of Missions and the Founding of San Francisco Xavier de Najera and Espiritu Santo de Zuniga, 1721-1722; VI. The Organization of Mission Life, 1722-1731; VII. Rivera's Inspection and the Removal of the Queretaran Missions to San Antonio, 1723-1731; VIII. Establishment of San Fernando de Bejar, First Civil Settlement in Texas, 1723-1731; and IX.
