About this Item
The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss, First Edition, First Printing (with all points), Original Dust Jacket (price-clipped), Random House, 1957, 61 pp, 9.25 x 6.75". In good condition. Dust jacket is beautifully preserved with bright and clean colors & very minimal scuffing to edges/corners. DJ is price-clipped, however. Edges of boards are lightly scuffed & edges worn. Head and tail of spine bumped. All points are met for a first edition: (1) boards are a matte finish, not glossy; (2) pages are sown in a single signature instead of multiple - see photo #4; (3) Reviews on rear cover do not mention Beginner's Book series; and (4) dust jacket was previously covered with a black-edged jacket protector, which has left marks on the binding and the end-papers as well as causing a small paper pull on the rear end-page - see photos #s 19 & 20. Light toning throughout text-block. Some instances of finger-soiling along fore-edge. No known previous ownership signature or marginalia. Binding tight and intact. Please see photo and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. A beloved childhood classic, with an original dust jacket in excellent condition. It is rare to see the dust jacket of a children's book to be this clean and intact, especially The Cat in the Hat.
