A first edition of the author's scarce first detective story published in 1944, in which he introduced Gervase Fen. Green cloth, 159pp, tanned pages, as usual, in faded yellow & cerise dustwrapper with 7/6 pricing to spine. Pencil erasure to f.f.e.p. Lacks rear free endpaper. Chipping & small loss to corners & head & tail of dw spine and minor creasing. Rare, especially in the original wartime dustwrapper. Seller Inventory # 4047
