12mo, original decorated blue green cloth. First edition. The best known book by Henry Wikoff (1813?-1884), U.S. author, diplomat and adventurer. Wikoff did jail time for the "friendly" abduction of his fiancee when she fled from London to Genoa the day before their wedding. This book is a lively autobiographical account of the events leading up to and following this abduction. See DAB.
