Hard Covers. Condition: VG. No Jacket. Photos, Circuit Maps (illustrator). 1st. The focus of this early classic of motor racing is on the sports cars designed Cecil Kimberr and his early competitive car bodies which he mounted on standard chassis being produced by his employer's Morris Garages company and thus was born the iconic British MG sports car. However, the book is also a close examination of the European motor racing scene in the years following World War One, with many of the famous names of high speed motoring up to the early 1930s part of Barre Lyndon's record of those historic years and of equally historic settings such as Le Mans, Brooklands, Spa and Nurburg Ring. Followers of today's motor racing scene with be astonished at the achievements of cars and drivers of this bygone era from the design, performance, technology and human endeavour viewpoints. An early classic of its genre. Unfortunately this copy lacks three illustrations, while otherwise in VG condition. The illustrations list is headed by a colour art frontis depicting a 500 mile race between R T Horton and Captain G E T Eyston in 1932 This is in place. From the list of 24 b/w text block illustrations the photos from Page 86 "Ex 120 at Linas-Montlhery Autodrome" and from Page 92 "Captain G E T Eyston" are missing. The photo on page 108 is loose with a small section torn from the lower edge, but with minimal loss from the photograph, likewise the cutaway of Page 206 of car Ex 127 is loose with few short tears top edge, but no loss from the image. In addition to the listing of illustrations there is another list of seven circuit plans --- one of these "Linas-Montlhery Autodrome": is missing at Page 78, all other circuit plans are in place. First edition from William Heinemann in 1933, 333 pages including index and acknowledgements. Oatmeal hard covers are VG with some light soiling, main heading of title/author in gilt at top front corner, front board has gilt border rules, spine titles similar to those on front, FFEP appears to have been removed, half title is heavily foxed with cracking at front gutter but front board firmly attached, initials SM in Gothic ink script top frontis verso. Apart from the defects outlined above the text block is ganerally VG+ with occasional foxing, mostly confined to vertical margins, rear board slightly loose with cracking to the gutter at the last text page verso and the RFEP, foxing to page following index.
