First edition, (viii), 345pp, 2pp advert for Tales of Mean Street, 39pp publisher's catalogue dated October 1896, original green cloth, gilt lettering on spine and upper board, ink signature of previous owner on front free endpaper and small stamp of another owner on pastedown, some slight foxing to prelim pages, some pages of the publisher's catalogue are uncut, front hinge starting to crack but the binding is firm - A VERY GOOD COPY. Arthur Morrison (1863-1945) was born in Poplar in the East End and is best known as a pioneer of detective fiction and his realistic stories of East End life.
