8vo 8" - 9" tall; 175 pages; 1946 Harcourt, Brace & Company HC/DJ 1st edition, stated. Soundly bound copy in original color pictorial dust jacket. The notoriously light sensitive dust jacket is sun blanched at spine with the black title lettering still bold but the orange background ad relief white lettering generally faded away. Jacket rubbed and worn at edges with shallow chips at spine ends and corner tips. Front flap fold relaxed and a bit furred along the fold. Offset toning to front endpages where it appears a clipping had been mounted. Page stock bright and clean. Basis for the 1948 film of the same name starring Ray Milland, Charles Laughton and Maureen O'Sullivan. VG-/G. Seller Inventory # 51988
