About this Item
A fine first edition, first printing, first impression of Seamus Heaney¿s renowned translation of the Anglo Saxon Epic Beowulf, in soft covers published by Faber and Faber in 1999 for the first time. This fine unread book has black covers with white/grey titles and the jacket painting shows a detail in red from ¿Then Rain¿ by Barrie Cooke. The tight bright book has no marks, bumps or writing over 106 pages, apart from a small crease to the top right hand corner of the front cover. This soft cover version with no ISBN number, quotes on the back as per the 2000 trade edition or price displayed must be a pre-publication review copy. The book contains Heaney¿s twenty page introduction to the poem & his translation, a copy of the first page of the original poem in old English, the ninety seven page poem, family trees and a note on names. The book won the Whitbread Book of the Year Award 1999 because of the quality and integrity of the translation. ITV¿s thirteen part adaption of the Beowulf epic may increase the desire to read the best available translation in modern English of the original saga. The book is in as new condition. Photos of this book are available on my AbeBooks website. Clear removable archival film protects the pristine card covers. Seller Inventory # 000169
