Scholarly monograph on a medieval script which originated in the Duchy of Benevento in southern Italy. Also called Longobarda, or sometimes Gothica, it was used from approximately the mid-8th century until the 13th century, although there are examples as late as the 16th century. Tall octavo: xix, 384 p. with 9 plates and 2 facsimiles. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt titles. Tiny previous owner's ink signature to the front pastedown.
