Notes: First UK trade edition with the extremely rare dust jacket - a wonderful survey of poster art and the history of the poster up to the time of this publication, with useful bibliography. Dedicated to Frank Pick (1878-1941) transport manager and key figure in developing London Transport and its image: he commissioned the London Underground typeface from Edward Johnston and the renowned series of posters by well known artists of the day, including E. McKnight Kauffer. Here Kauffer points out 'the modern Poster is still in its adolescence,' and he also notes with examples, bad painters design bad posters, and good painters have always produced good posters.
