hardback, French language publication, volumes one and two of what would later become three volumes (the third appearing in 1915), first editions printed in 1907 and 1911, with the unusual addition of stapled copies of the Introductions for the second edition loosely inserted in both volumes, these are in a slightly smaller format than the first. Rectangular format, measuring 9 1/2" x 13", brown cloth over belled edge boards and lettered gilt, patterned endpapers. Volume One has a gentle knock to the foot of the spine and to the bottom leading corner of the upper board, although two of the plates in volume one are pulled, the bindings of both volumes are tight and robust.
