Agricultural Revolution, 18th/19th centuries. Book about compensation for land enclosed/appropriated so that a large area of land would be worth draining using steam engines. Title: Alphabetical list of the proprietors, and particulars of their properties, in the parishes townships, and places, in the parts of Kesteven in the county of Lincoln; in respect whereof they severally claim to be interested in the lands and grounds, to be set out in Parichial or general allotments, under Deeping Fen Inclosure and Drainage Act. Claims. Market Deeping and James Deeping. This is not listed in the Kestevan Awards, held in Lincoln, and is neither on Copac nor ESTC. The printer Thornill (sic) at Sleaford is represented with five entries on Copac, c 1795-1800. This publication is undated but must perhaps have followed shortly after the act of 1801. The document, sewn within blue paper covers, is defective. Some of the sheets are printed on one side only. The collation goes: title, pp.1-18, p. 19, neither printing nor number on p. 20, with blank section of the bottom of the sheet p.19 trimmed away; pp 21-22 not present; pp. 23-28; neither printing nor number on p. 30; no pp.31-32; pp.33-38; no pp 39-40; pp.42-42; no pp. 43-44; pp. 45-46; no pp. 47-48; pp. 49-50; no pp. 51-52; pp 54-56. [ie missing pp. 21-22,31-32,39-40,43-44,47-48. Covers scuffed, no back strip, contents clean. This Lincolnshire fen drainage book may be unrecorded (?). Folio printed document, with landscape or horizontal orientation, listing claims for compensation to be made under the Deeping Enclosure Act of 1801, 41 Geo.iii, c.128, 1801. Under this act the owners of land listed were empowered to elect Trustees who were enabled to levy a tax to build engines (ie steam driven pumps) to drain the land.
