Fraenkel's most famous result was to prove the independence of the axiom of choice from ZF (i.e. he showed that the axiom of choice cannot be proven (or its negation proven) from ZF). Together with the axiom of choice, the system ZFC is a suitable foundation for mathematics and has been the subject of extensive study in foundational research over the past century. This book was written for advanced students in mathematics and philosophy and is intended to introduce such students to axiomatic set theory. A presentable copy of this uncommon book by one of the seminal figures in the foundations of mathematics.
