Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Doreen Valiente was one of the most respected English witches to have influenced the modern day Pagan movement. In this book, a re-visit of her first literary outing of 1962, she examines Witchcraft in Sussex, the role of the Horned God, hares and the Moon, folk-rites and the powers of Witchcraft. She is hereby laying the foundations of the modern day Witchcraft movement. As Gerald Gardner is now commonly thought of as the 'Father' of contemporary Witchcraft, so Doreen is known affectionately as the 'Mother of Modern Witchcraft'. Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Cream boards with black lettering on the spine. The rear panel of the boards has a slightly different colouring from the front and spine - more grey with slightly streaky patches on the surface in the centre. Not sure how this has come about but most probably something odd in the production process. The spine is also slightly darkened. There are about a dozen small brown spots on the page fore edges with a thin pale brown stain running across the page edges in the centre of these. Two small spots on the bottom edges and a little smudging on the top edges. The pages are clean and bright with little signs of use. No jacket. First printing. From the collection of Peter Haining although there is nothing on the book to indicate this other than a cutting of Valiente's obituary on which he has noted the date.
