Add to basketFirst Edition. About fine in a lightly soiled dust jacket. Presentation copy, inscribed by Smith on the title page, 'To Bernie, Who, with his understanding and consideration contributed much to the doing of this book. Thanks Gene.' Although 'Bernie' is unidentified, it might have been Bernard Freemesser, an instructor at the University of Oregon, where Smith taught in the summers of 1968 and 1969, or it could have been Bernie Quint, the design editor for Smith's feature 'Spanish Village' in Life Magazine. In what appears to be the same ink, Minor White's name has been crossed out on the copyright page and the dust jacket price has been altered. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
