Condition: Very Good. 4 Volumes, 511 + 516 + 414 + 534 pages, marbled edges, a generally very good set of matching hardbacks (contemporary half-calf on marbled boards, the ['tan'] spines with mock raised bands ruled in gilt), some quite trivial foxing on most pages, a very small defect at bottom of spine of the fourth volume, from a uk university. Bound into the last volume is a quite separate work: VISION D'HEBAL, Chef d'un Clan Geossais, Episode tire de la ville des expiations, Jules Didot Aine, 1854 (with 122 pages).

Copie ronéotypée de l'une des oeuvres mystiques du Maître de l'Ecole de Lyon, imprimé pour la première fois en 1831 et fort rare. Dernière publication de cette oeuvre relatant une vision d'un personnage doué de seconde vue et qui saisit, dans un éclair de sa pensée, toute l'évolution historique de l'humanité jusqu'à son effondrement final. On peut considérer ce dernier texte comme une sorte de condensé de la philosophie de Ballanche qui, lui-même, eut une expérience illuminative et qui vécut une grande partie de sa vie dans une retraite contemplative et mystique, posture qui, sans doute, séduisit quelques amis comme Chateaubriand ou Mme Récamier. Très curieux chapitre final sur la destruction apocalyptique de l'humanité. Caillet 671 pour La Ville des Expiations : « La vision d'Hébal témoigne d'un don indéniable de seconde vue ». Précieuse copie ronéotypée établie par Ernest Britt, portant sa signature à la date de 1934.
