(B&W photographs) SIGNED by the subject, master printer Ward Ritchie, on the title page and also on Plate 12, latterly with an inscription "For old friends from the 1930s -- the Petits"; additionally SIGNED by Lawrence Clark Powell on the limitation page. "Designed, printed and produced by D'Ambrosio, using hand set Della Robbia type and a Vandercook No. 4 proof press . . . under the direction of Norman E. Tanis, Director of Libraries, California State University, Northridge." Contents: ii [title page]; iii-v (Foreword by Lawrence Clark Powell); followed by Plates 1 (WR at work, 1984), 2 ("The 'burden' of printing by hand on an antique Albion press"), 3 ("Setting the frisket"), 4 ("The man and his press"), 5 ("Anticipation"), 7 (Grant Dahlstrom, Jake Zeitlin, WR, and LCP -- the Zamorano 'Compadres' -- at the Clark Library, 1980), 9 (Irving Block, Norman Tanis and WR at an exhibition of WR's books at the Oviatt Library, 1985), 10 ("A good sport"; WR with a tennis racket), 11 ("Gosh! Isn't this fun?"), 12 ("Ward Ritchie: A man for past, present, and future centuries," 1986). Each of the photographic plates is a 4x6 black-and-white print mounted on 2-ply archival board; the text is printed on the same type of boards. [NOTE that Plates 6 and 8 are not present.] The plates are followed by two boards containing "About the Photographer," plus the limitation page stating this to be No. 24 of sixty-five copies; these latter three boards all un-numbered. NOTE also that two of the plates have the previous owner's address label on the verso. NOTE also that there may be another missing board; the order was jumbled when I acquired this, and I'm not certain if the limitation page belongs at the end (where I've placed it) or at the beginning. (There is no page numbered "i", which makes me slightly suspicious.) At any rate, the set IS incomplete, with only 10 of the original 12 plates present, and is commensurately bargain-priced. In brown cloth-covered clamshell box (designed to resemble a camera lens), some slightly loose fibers on box, else in very good condition. Copy 57 of 65. Signed by Powell on colophon leaf. Original photographs of the famous California printer. Includes several portraits and group shots (with Zamorano Club friends, at the Clark Library, etc.).

Mounted folio leaves housed in a brown drop-back box; v, [2], 12 mounted photographic plates on printed mats, each mat signed and numbered by the photographer; followed by with a limitation leaf signed by Lawrence Clark Powell; the edition is limited to sixty-five numbered copies of which this is #23.~~A creative production, in a box designed and bound by J. D'Ambrosio which has a lid designed like the iris of a camera. Near Fine binding.

Condition: Fine. First Edition. Quarto: v, 12, [3] loose leaves, text on rectos only. A fine copy, housed in the publisher's folding brown cloth portfolio with a die cut aperture and inset panel. Tribute to printer / poet / publisher Ward Ritchie, comprised of a foreword by Lawrence Clark Powell, twelve original mounted photographs by Amanda Blanco (each numbered and signed on the mount by her), and a note about the photographer by Norman Tanis. This is copy No. 56 of 65, printed in Della Robbia type by Joe D'Ambrosio, and signed on the colophon by Powell and the printer. Accompanied by the pamphlet Remembering Ward and Neal (2002) by Thomas F. Andrews, past president of the Historical Society of Southern California, who inscribed this copy to Gordon Van De Water, past president of the Zamorano Club.

The photographs show Ritchie with his handpress, at work writing at his desk, playing tennis, at rest, and with his friends, Powell, Jake Zeitlin, Grant Dahlstrom, Muir Dawson, and others. 12" x 9." [viii] leaves of text. Twelve dry mounted original photographic plates, eleven of which are signed by Blanco. Loose, in brown cloth clamshell box with center cut-out, featuring a camera's eye lens design with the initials ÒW RÓ in the center. A fine copy. One of sixty-five copies, signed by Lawrence Clark Powell. Printed, designed, and produced by Joseph DÕAmbrosio using a hand set Della Robbia type and a Vandercook No. 4 proof press, with photographs printed and mounted by Amanda Blanco.
