Three of the four advertised illustrations are present, with some colouring added by previous owner. The frontispiece has suffered some loss at the foredge. Seemingly rare children's title. Writing under the pseudonym Holme Lee, the works of Harriet Parr were well-reviewed in her life time and some novels were also published in America. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. The inscription reads, 'Henry, from his aff. Grandmamma Matilda W Vernon. Cowley House, Oxford, Dec 25. 1844' Four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, sound. Rubbed to the boards and the spine, with a two-inch tear to the front joint near the tail. The spine is missing a slither of cloth to both the head and the tail. The front hinge has failed, and is held on by cords only. The rear hinge is starting, and is a little tender. Internally, the binding is a little loose. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd patch of light scattered foxing. Good Only. book.
