Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Printing, First U.S. Edition. These controversial memoirs by Speer, largely written while serving a 20-year sentence for war crimes furing WWII when he served as "Hitler's architect" and as Nazi armaments minister. At its publication in Germany in 1969, the book was a sensation with its descriiptions of the inner workings and leadership within the Nazi party. However, it was heavily criticized for its lack of discussion of the Holacaust, the concentration camps, slave labor and Speer's involvement that led to his Nuremburg conviction for use of slave labor in munitions factories during the war. First U.S. edition, first printing. About 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches in black cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. 596 pages including indezx and notes. Sorry, no dustjacket. The inside covers and end pages are decorated with a photo of Speer's prison manuscript for the book. The top edge of text is red and there are numerous b & w photos throughout the text. The boards and text show only minimal shelf wear and are clean and complete with no underlining or highlighting. With a dj this copy would be very collectable.
