Tall 12mo.192 pp. Frontispiece, 5 engraved plates; foxing. Contemporary half-calf, marbled boards; corners showing, else very good. The Ingoldsby legends were first printed in 1837 in Bentley's Miscellany and later in New Monthly Magazine. Their popularity with readers resulted in their being collected to a book which went under a number of editions. The stories themselves range from retellings of folktales, to original stories, however most of the legends are satirical takes on common legends and myths.
