First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Hardcover in slipcase. Black slipcase in very good condition. The book itself is gorgeously bound in full red calf, with gold lettering and raised cords on the spine. The spine is ever-so-slightly rubbed from age. Boards and binding are crisp and clean and most attractive. Gold lettering on the front cover says 'The Ford Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Series 1961 Award Winner.' The name 'David Meiselman' is stamped in gold at the bottom right corner of the front cover. Marbled endpapers. 75 pages. Clean throughout, with marks or writing. First printing of the first edition. David Meiselman was an assistant professor of Economics at the University of Chicago while he was working on this thesis, where he studied under Milton Friedman. He went on to work at the US Treasury, the US House of Representatives, as a professor at VA Tech, and a consultant to the US Treasury, the World Bank, the NY Stock Exchange, among other positions. I believe that this is her personal copy of his thesis, as it came from an estate with several economics books with his name in them, including one inscribed to him by Milton Friedman. Please email with questions or to request photos. If you see a photo beside this listing, please be aware that it's an ABE Stock Photo (whatever that is) and not a photo of this book.
