Paperback. Condition: New. Lissa Wolsak, a poet who seemingly emerged fully-formed in the mid-1990s, now offers access to the realized body of her work in this collection. Neither easily classified nor directly traceable to a particular school or lineage, she stands instead within her own continuously evolving context-one as free of convention and fashion as it is independent of thought outside the work itself. The mirror would do well to reflect further, demands Jean Cocteau's Orphic radio voice, and Wolsak's poetry answers to this strange admonition: For the self-reflective moment in her work takes us far beyond familiar literary practices of self-attention and recursive discourse. Again and again this work reaches a genuinely mysterious interpenetration of vivid awareness, renewed language, and human care.SQUEEZED LIGHT includes all of Wolsak's previously published poetry to date, her essay in poetics An Heuristic Prolusion, an interview with the author, and an introductory essay by George Quasha with Charles Stein.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The recent generation in the laboratory of phase squeezed and intensity squeezed light beams has brought to fruition the theoretical predictions of such non-classical phenomena which have been made and developed in recent years by a number of workers in the field of quantum optics. A vigorous development is now underway of both theory and experiment and the first measurements have been coi:Jfirmed and extended already in some half dozen laboratories. Although the fields of application of these novellight sources are as yet somewhat hazy in our minds and some inspired thinking is required along these lines, the pace and excitement of the research is very clear. It is to he hoped that the new possibilities of: making measurements below the quantum shot noise lirnit which is made possible by these squeezed states of light willlead to further fundamental advances in the near future. In this NATO ARW a number of the leaders in the field met in the extremely pleasant surroundings of Cortina d'Ampezzo and their contributions are recorded in this volume. The meeting was held at the Istituto d'Arte which was enjoying its lOOth anniversary celebrations. This ARW was preceeded by an ONR Special Seminar on 'Photons and Quantum Fluctuations', the proceedings of which will be published by Adam Hilger Ltd. The timeliness of the meeting was acknowledged by the support of the NATO Scientific Affairs Division which we would like to acknowledge on behalf of all the participants.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This book provides a comprehensive analysis of quantum-confined semiconductor lasers, focusing on quantum dot lasers (QDLs) and interband quantum cascade lasers (ICLs). Through theoretical and numerical exploration, the author scrutinizes the amplitude and frequency noise spectra, studies the dynamics induced by delayed optical reinjection, and investigates the generation of squeezed states for both laser types. Notably, his predictions align with experimental results, demonstrating the robustness of this approach. Structured meticulously, the book begins with an overview of QDL and ICL technology, followed by in-depth chapters on classical noise and dynamics, and quantum aspects, particularly the generation of squeezed states. Clearly written, the text strikes a balance between words and equations, maintaining accessibility without sacrificing depth. It includes an extensive bibliography, a testament to the thoroughness of the research and a useful feature for all newcomers to the field. This book provides a comprehensive analysis of quantum-confined semiconductor lasers, focusing on quantum dot lasers (QDLs) and interband quantum cascade lasers (ICLs).
