The boards are extensively rubbed. There is a new matching Skivertex spine and new endpapers. The binding is now stiffer than it should ideally be. vii + 272 of text + 10 inserted folding maps (in black only and the others in from two to five colours). The text is unmarked except for a library stamp on the retained original front free endpaper. A few early leaves are lightly sunned and there is very occasional light spotting throughout the book. The maps are all present and in good or better condition. Some of the folds are now slightly proud of the text block, the edges of which are sunned. One of the maps has a 7 cm unclosed tear. The "Chronological List of the Principal Events in Early Cape History" occupies the last 22 pp of the text.
