Overall, a great, tight copy in the original (unrestored dust jacket) and scarce thus. This is a first edition of the author's scarce first book. Ms. L'Engle went on to write the classic Newberry Award Prize Winning, "A Wrinkle in Time". Previous owner's neat bookplate to front pastedown and name, date and location to front free endpaper. 371 pp.
Hard Cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. A well used copy that appears to have come from the author's home. Inside cover is marked " Madeleine and Hugh Franklin 924 West End Ave. New York 25 NY lending copy" in the author's handwriting in black ink. This is the author's home address. "L'engle" was the author's nom de plume, this is the author's first book. All corner's are bumped, spine is heavily sunned, light blue covers have little spots and stains. Back cover at inside hinge has torn paper but cloth is intact, paper is age toned, one page has a small open tear at bottom edge. Pages/interior are otherwise clean and unmarked. Publisher's page shows no additional printings.
