Condition: Very good plus. First Edition. First edition of this out-of-this-world moveable book about the solar system, published on the eve of the Space Race. Incorporating moveable, pop-up, and board book elements, SKY-HI is truly a dynamic entry in the history of children's outer space books. Visually, it is deeply evocative of the 1950s US, with its bold mid-century modern aesthetic and Stars-and-Stripes-dressed protagonist. SKY-HI is not often found with its original pictorial slipcase, which features additional text content in the form of a "Space Quiz," as well as an invitation for children to tell the author if they are interested in more titles about the "tremendous universe" (but with no address provided to send in this feedback). The author herself is quite enigmatic - we can find no trace of Catherine Margaret Marriott, other than her copyright filing for this title. A fascinating artifact of the space craze. 6'' x 10'' (leaves); 8'' x 10.5'' (boards). Original color pictorial boards, red comb bound. Moveable figure of TERY to front board. Illustrated in color, with two pop-ups, moveable "dial" to inner rear board. [10] leaves. Light toning, some spots of wear. All elements intact. Bright.
