Slight crushing to spine ends. Wear marks overall.

Condition: Very Good. A first edition, first printing published by Macmillan in 1946. A very good book with some white circular stains to the boards in a very good wrapper with a tear to the foot of the spine and some wear to the spine and tips. SIGNED by the Author in pencil to the front endpaper.

First edition, first printing. Published by Jonathan Cape in London, 1956. Without the dust wrapper. This is a very good copy. The publishers beige cloth boards are with some minor scuffing marks to the edges and some sparse spots of browning to the front and rear panels. The internals are mostly clean, but with some slight foxing and a small, neat previous owners inscription to the fly. The text blocks are slightly toned but remain clean. Overall, this is a very good copy. An unforgettable story of life during and after the Second World War, based on true accounts.

Foxing and some light staining to fore-edge. Top edges lightly dust-stained. Light foxing to end papers and a few prelims. Owner's sticker to fep. The price-clipped d/w is water stained and rubbed and nicked. I'd like to say it's not as bad as it sounds but that would perhaps be stretching a point. However it's not the most common of titles. The jacket is no chips or loss except it is price clipped. There is minimal wear to the spine ends and corners. On the reverse of the jacket is a watermark. The book has a gift inscription on the front free end paper. The boards have a pushed corner but otherwise are clean as are the pages. The book is very good or better. An award winning children's novel set in the second world war. It is brilliantly illustrated by C. Walter Hodges.

The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. It is the correct First Issue. Mild edge-wear with a little loss a the spine ends. Mild toning to the spine and the flap edges. Closed tears to the lower front edge and at the folds. Mild toning and spotting to the rear cover. The C. Walter Hodges wrapper artwork ( reproduced as the colour frontispiece ) looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover.
