This half calf volume features three very scarce volumes of the 'Second Report of the Royal Sanitary Commission'. Present here are: 'Vol. I. The Report', 'Vol. II. Arrangement of Sanitary Statutes, Analysis of Evidence, Precis of Oral Evidence, Paper on Watershed Boards, and Memorandum on Duties of Medical Offices of Public Health', and 'Vol. III. Part 1 - Minutes of Evidence from November 1869 to June 1870'.The commission these reports were produced for aimed to assess the effectiveness of existing sanitary laws and recommend reforms to improve urban and rural hygiene.Drawing on extensive evidence from medical officers, engineers, and local authorities, the reports covered topics such as water supply, sewage disposal, housing conditions, burial practices, and disease prevention.These reports aimed to promote a systematised approach to public health in response to persistent outbreaks of cholera, typhoid, and other preventable diseases.
