Edges and preliminary pages a little foxed, and some scattered, mostly margin foxing, with a handsome bookplate of a French-Australian bookseller/collector on the front fixed endpaper, o/w very good in a good/fair dustjacket with some light soiling, spine darkening, and professionally closed tears and small chips (including a larger piece which restores the spine's title). Lindsay's seven studies of famous ruffians (including Henry Morgan in Jamaica, Hildebrand at Salerno, Columbus at sea, Bligh in New South Wales and others), the title taken from Thomas Nashe's line: "will needs carouse, conspire, and quarrell, that they may make Ruffians' Hall of Hell". Illustrated with b/w portrait drawings/engravings of the subjects.
