Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. [4], xxii, [4], 166, [2]pp, with one facsimile and one hand-coloured plate. In a likely later binding of orange cloth-covered boards. 8vo. Cloth a little rounded at ends of a sunned spine, mild dark mark on rear panel. Bookplate of Peter Spencer Spokes FSA on the front paste down. Pages are a little browned and spotted, more heavily on facsimile and plate, and occasional neat, faint pencil annotations in margins else internally neat and clean. Firmly bound and square. Peter Spencer Spokes was an architectural historian and photographer, a fellow of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of London and one time Lord Mayor and alderman of Oxford; he spent much of his working life at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. The Roll of Arms details the coats of arms of peers and knights during the period 1307-1327, the reign of Edward II, providing a comprehensive examination of heraldry in the early 14th century.
