Unfortunately April becomes pregnant with their third child and she attempts an abortion from which she dies.It is a powerful story of marriage in the 1950 suburbs. A BBC film was released in December 2008 and has gotten very good film critic reviews from many including Roger Ebert. At the time of the book's release it was called a masterpiece in modern American fiction, a literary event - genius by New York Post and the find of the year by Newsweek.

This copy belonged to a rental library, but is minimally marked. Front endpage bears stamp (of rental library), plus a previous owner's name and a very brief notation written in ink. There are no other marks/writing of any kind. Binding is square and sound, though there's a little creasing at head and foot of spine. A few pages have some finger smudges in the margins, most notably pages 179-182. The dust jacket which was preserved in the old-style mylar (wtih brown/black strips at top and bottom edge), now removed, is in nice shape. It's slightly wrinkled and there is a crease at both the front and rear flap. A few small spots of edge-staining as a result of the old mylar, but overall quite clean and attractive. Three tiny tears (one-eighth-inch or less) to bottom edge of front panel. No chipping. The publisher's original $4.75 price remains intact on front flap.
