The first book by an African-American to win the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award. Hansberry's masterpiece in its first publication after the success of the Broadway performance with the original cast that starred in the Hollywood film. This edition includes photographs from the Broadway play, and the Langston Hughes poem from which Hansberry drew the title. One of the most important and influential books of the century Book is fine and unmarked. Jacket has a very small spine edge chip and a couple of tiny edge nicks, and is else whole, clean, bright and unclipped. Archival Mylar jacket cover included.

Light foxing on the spine and top edge otherwise an internally fine, unmnarked copy. Unclipped yellow, pictorial jacket has superficial wear, mostly on the extremities.in mylar sleeve. A remarkably well preserved copy of this story of a black family's experiences in south Chicago, as they attempt to improve their financial circumstances with an insurance payout following the death of the father. The New York Drama Critics' Circle named it the best play of 1959, and some puiblications consider it among the best plays ever written. Size: Octavo.

A great copy of the classic play inspired by Langston Hughes' poem with the lines, "What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up / Like a raisin in the sun?" set in the South Side of Chicago.
