Elegantly produced catalogues of a splendid collection on science, navigation and travel, especially rich in English books of the 16th and 17th centuries. It had been intended that Sotheby's would go on to catalogue and sell the remainder of Horblit's collection but in fact only the 2 sales reflected here took place; most of the remaining books being either sold to H P Kraus or donated to Harvard. The background is discussed, and a possible explanation given, in Basbanes' " A Gentle Madness". Catalogues arranged by author, with subject, chronological and selective provenance indexes.
