Alnwick; Printed by William Davison, 1808. First edition. 12mo. 17x11 cm. 266 & 280 pp. Two volumes bound in full red morocco (Riviere, mid 19th century), spines with raised bands, gilt in compartments, gilt ruled boards and edges, gilt inner borders and gilt edges, marbled endpapers. Bookplates of John Sheepshanks (dated 1852) and Einar Josefson. Spine ends are a little worn and the spines slightly darkened. The first volume has a rift in outer margin on pp. 35/36, and pp. 145-156 are slightly spotted. In the second volume is a small loss in top margin, near spine, on pp. 139/40, a small loss and a short tear in top margin on pp. 151/152. There is a small hole in bottom margin on pp. 187/188, and four leaves have a small chip in top margin. Contents are strikingly bright and clean. A fine copy. Contains 15 full-page and 45 tailpiece wood engravings by Bewick. NCBEL 2:1981. Hugo, The Bewick Collector (230) 214.
