Seller: The Other Change of Hobbit, Richmond, CA, U.S.A.
Hard Cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Frank Reynolds R. I. (illustrator). Early Reprint. I doubt this is a first printing, but it is an early printing of the Reynolds illustrated edition with many lovely color plates. Unfortunately, the plates don't collate properly with the table of contents. Instead of being opposite page 224, "Flight" is opposite page 208, which is not listed in the table of contents as having a plate. There is no plate opposite page 224. The plate opposite 272 is "The Marchioness", which is not listed in the table of contents at all. Opposite 288 is "Cribbage", listed as opposite 272. Opposite 304 is "Away with Melancholy", listed as opposite 288. Opposite 320 is "The Figurehead", listed as opposite 304. And the last plate is correct again at page 336. So there is, in the end, one extra picture not listed in the table of contents. Is that more information than you wanted? The book is smoke-damaged on the front cover, spine, and page edges, and is generally a worn copy; but the illustrations are quite bright and fresh, unaffected by any of the problems the book has. The binding is buckram and paper boards, with a paper title label on the front cover (see scan). Shipping cost may be more than ABE's default, particularly outside the US -- please enquire when ordering.
Hardcover. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering and gilt and black cameo on front cover, black silhouette illustrations on end papers, color mounted frontispiece, color illustrated title page, 4 preliminary leaves, 359 pp, 21 unnumbered leaves of color mounted plates (including frontis) with descriptive guard sheets. Illustrated by Frank Reynolds R.I. The colored plates variously dated 1912 and 1913. Good+ (light shelfwear and soiling to covers, corners bumped, binding secure and pages are clean and clear, all mounted plates are present and very clean).
