Condition: Fair. 1840. 517 pages. No dust jacket. Black cloth with gilt lettering. Vol. I. Book has been recovered. Contains black and white pullout maps. Inscriptions to front pastedown and endpaper. Pages are heavily tanned and thumbed at the edges. Heavy foxing throughout. Pages 235-238 are loose. Large ink spot to pages. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Hardcover. Condition: Poor. 1855 printing hardcovers (2 volume set), bound in decorative brown cloth, with gilt lettering on spines, are in Poor condition, having the first volume actually in G condition, with some wear to top and bottom spine, some light staining to back cover, and with light wear to covers, and very slight shaking to volume (noticed in the gutter between the title-page and the preceding page), but interior very good and with a few very light pencil markings in early part, and with normal age-foxing to pages; the second volume's interior is very similar to first volume, but the covers and spine are in terrible shape with much staining and wear, including missing portions of the top of spine and top right corner of back cover. Both volumes would be excellent candidates for re-binding. Illustrated with engravings. With two prefaces by Barnes. Religion. The Old Testament. Judaism. Bible. DB.
