Portrait frontispiece. English. 220x140mm. 0.4kg. Very good, in very good dust jacket; light shelf and edge wear to dust jacket, price-clipped; previous owner's signature to first blank, front inner hinge starting to crack. The first published edition of Denton Welch's journals. Welch wrote the journals from 1942 until his early death in 1948. They are filled with honest accounts of his poor physical health and his creative labours, as well as many acerbic descriptions of his friends and acquaintances, including Edith Sitwell, Herbert Read and Vita Sackville-West. The merciless nature of Welch's pen meant that several of the journal's original passages had to be omitted but in 1984 a complete and unabridged edition of the journals was issued. Beaux Books specialises in fine and rare books on art and culture in the 20th and 21st centuries. We welcome questions about our books and we are happy to provide any extra images.
