Decorative Cloth. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good copy of the 1st edition of British Butterflies, vol III of Entomology from the Naturalist's Library edited by Sir William Jardine. In the original publisher's cloth binding with gilt titles to the spine, with 34 plates of which 32 are hand coloured. With volume listing for the Naturalist's Library; notice from the publisher; half title; frontispiece portrait of Werner; hand coloured vignette title page; 2 further title pages; advertisement; contents listing; Memoir of Werner; text with illustrations, 2 plain plates and 32 hand coloured plates - tissue-guarded; and publishers adverts (20 pages) at the rear. The binding has been rebacked preserving the original spine which was complete but had a central split. The binding is sound and tight. The front board is faded at the edges with some turning to corners and light edge wear. The back board is more faded and with a lot of surface scuffing and some repair to corners. The original green endpapers are present with professional repair at the joints. The contents are complete and clean. Most of the text pages have been opened only recently and are very clean with toning to the paper at the edges. The plates are bright and very well coloured with some offsetting to the tissue guards. The plate paper is toned around the edges.
