Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition hardback historical novel as published by Hutchinson in 1992. Lindsey Davis has written on the title page a charming and generous inscription to someone in the book trade and dated her signature 29 April 1992. So with this copy you will gain an additional and unique set of twenty words of Lindsey Davis's prose! The condition of both book and dust jacket is clearly 'Fine'. If there had been no (gentle) yellowing of pages the condition might have moved up a step higher. Clearly the previous owner looked after their books uncommonly well. As with all our sales of books within the UK, we only ever charge a flat standard delivery cost of £3.35. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Edith Pargeter's collection of the novels of Lindsey Davis. All are first editions and were published respectively in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1995. The Silver Pigs and Shadows in Bronze were published by Sidgwick & Jackson; Venus in Copper and The Iron Hand of Mars by Hutchinson; Poseidon's Gold by Century; and A Time To Depart is one of 15 de-luxe lettered copies issued by the Scorpion Press. The first three books are unsigned. Iron Hand has a simple signature on the title page. Poseidon's Gold is signed as follows: To Edith - How lovely to appear with you! With best wishes and love, Lindsey 8/10/93. The inscription refers to Edith Pargeter's review on the back of the d/w. A Time to Depart was published by the Scorpion Press in a limited edition of 99 copies signed by the author, and a further 15 lettered de luxe copies signed by the author and Ellis Peters for private distribution. The book is bound in quarter blue goatskin with raised bands, gilt, marbled boards, in a glassine wrapper, and lettered copy C. Ellis Peters begins this book with an appreciation of Lindsey Davis. Condition: spine on Silver Pigs is lightly faded; Shadows in Bronze has a small graze on the front on the d/w, difficult to see from the front; Iron Hand has a rectangular impression on the d/w and front board where a heavy object has been placed; else all books are fine in dust wrappers. Last Act in Palmyra, published in 1994, is not present. A Time to Depart was signed by Edith in 1995, only a few months before she died. ***A review by Ellis Peters appears on the back of all the dust wrappers, and there is no doubt that her review of The Silver Pigs in particular helped to launch Lindsey Davis's career. Peters wrote: I have never before given a quotation for any novel, and don't expect to do so again unless I am offered one which is as good as this one. I have devoured it - the whole thing is splendid. It has everything, mystery, pace, wit, fascinating scholarship, and above all two protgonists for whom I have genuine affection, and want to meet again. A rare opportunity to acquire a collection of novels given by one famous author to another. For the six volumes. Inscribed by Author(s).

20 Volumes, all 1st Editions, 1st Impressions. 16.3 x 24 cm original boards with gilt stamped titles to the spine and original dust jackets. Each copy is signed, 5 are also dated (in the year of publication), two have an inscription (to the same person) and Shadows in Bronze is signed twice (on the half-title and title pages). The books are generally in at least near fine condition, noting some toning to page edges as per usual and two with mention-worthy bumps (Last Act in Palmyra has bumps to the bottom fore edge corners and A Body in the Bath House has a significant dent across the bottom edge). All dust jackets are at least near fine condition (though Venus in Copper has been price clipped), and are now protected in removable clear covers (not shown in our images). A really nice complete set of books. Due to the weight of these two volumes, postage will be at additional cost the weight of such a large set makes it economically unviable for shipping abroad, so, sadly, UK buyers only. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.
